7. 1815 – The Battle of Waterloo

The Battle of Waterloo marked the end of the Napoleonic wars. However, this battle was also the “groundword” for Nato and the United Nations, as only 36% of Wellington’s army were actually British. In Lord Byron’s poem about the battle, he mentions “United Nations”, which was later picked up by Winston Churchill, and later used as the name for the organisation.
