2. 1066 – The Battle of Stamford Bridge / The Battle of Hastings

These battles marked the Normal Conquest of England. It was hugely important, as it destroyed Britain’s links with Scandinavia and instead brought the country in closer contact with the rest of Western Eurpe, especially France. This has had a huge effect on our culture, which is more Western than Northern European. It also changed the language to be influenced by French. Without this invasion, our country might have been a Nordic land.
